A4 vs A5 Flyers: Which Size Should You Print?

A5 (148 x 210 mm) is the right size for most Singapore flyer campaigns. It slides into a letterbox flat, uses half the paper of A4, and costs less per piece to print and handle. Choose A4 (210 x 297 mm) when the flyer has to carry a full menu, a price list, a map or a form that would not fit on one A5 side.

What is the size difference between A4 and A5?

A5 is exactly half of A4. Fold an A4 sheet once along its short edge and you have A5. A4 measures 210 x 297 mm and A5 measures 148 x 210 mm. Both are ISO 216 standard sizes, so any Singapore printer runs them without custom setup, and two A5 flyers are cut from every A4 sheet.

Size Dimensions Area Pieces per A4 sheet
A4 210 x 297 mm 623.7 cm2 1
A5 148 x 210 mm 310.8 cm2 2
DL 99 x 210 mm 207.9 cm2 3
A6 105 x 148 mm 155.4 cm2 4

A DL flyer is sized to slip into a DL envelope; see envelope sizes in Singapore.

Which size fits a letterbox?

A5 slides into a standard letterbox flat. A4 is normally folded once for letterbox drops, which turns it into A5 size anyway, adds a folding step, and puts a crease through the artwork. For HDB, condo and landed letterbox campaigns, A5 is the default and is what our flyer distribution packages are quoted on.

Which is cheaper to print?

At the same quantity and paper, A5 costs less per piece because it uses half the sheet. Two A5 flyers come off every A4 sheet, so paper and press area are halved. The exact rate depends on quantity and paper weight; current rates are on our flyer printing page, where volume runs start from 2.8 cents a piece.

Which is cheaper to distribute?

Letterbox distribution is priced per piece and per estate type, so the size itself does not change the drop rate. What changes is handling. Ten thousand A5 flyers weigh about half as much as ten thousand A4 flyers on the same paper, which matters to the distributor carrying them and to anything sent by post. Packages are sized at 10,000 pieces, and larger runs cost less per flyer; see flyer distribution in Singapore for HDB, condo and landed rates.

Which holds more content?

A4 has twice the area. Use it when the flyer must carry a menu, a price list, a floor plan, a map or a form. A5 suits one offer, one message and one call to action. If you find yourself shrinking text to make it fit on A5, the content wants A4.

Which paper weight suits each size?

Use Size Paper
Letterbox drop, high volume A5 128gsm or 157gsm art paper
Letterbox drop, premium feel A5 200gsm to 260gsm
Menu or price list A4 157gsm gloss, or heavier with lamination
Event or walkway handout A5 or A6 128gsm to 157gsm
Envelope insert or rack card DL 157gsm or heavier

For the weight decision in detail see flyer paper weight: 80gsm vs 100gsm vs 128gsm vs 157gsm. The full paper guide is on flyer paper types and sizes.

A4 or A5: the quick decision rule

  • One offer, one call to action: A5
  • Menu, price list, map or form: A4
  • Event or walkway handout: A5, lighter and easier to hold
  • Maximum reach on a fixed budget: A5

Need more space than one A5 side? The second side costs 0.6 cents a flyer; see single vs double sided flyers.
