How much does paper bag printing cost in Singapore?

Why do 100 paper bags cost almost as much as 500?
Because most of the cost is in setting up the print and the die, not in the paper. Once the press and the bag-making are set up, extra bags are cheap.
For the smallest standard size, 100 bags cost $363 and 500 cost $479. Four hundred extra bags cost you $116, which is 29 cents each. Per bag, that is $3.63 against 96 cents.
So if you are weighing up 100 against 500, order 500. And if you are weighing up 500 against 1,000, that step costs $163 for another 500 bags, or 33 cents each. Paper bags do not go out of date the way a dated flyer does, so the only reason to print 100 is if your branding is about to change.

What size paper bag should I order?
Pick by what goes inside. The four common cases: a small gift or accessory needs PB08 or PB01, a boutique purchase or bakery box needs PB06 or PB10, an A4 document or lookbook needs PB03 or PB09, and a bulky retail or event bag needs PB04 or PB05.
The third number is the gusset, which is the depth of the bag when it opens out. That is the one people get wrong. A bag 250mm wide with an 80mm gusset holds far less than the same width with a 120mm gusset, so if you are packing a box rather than a flat item, go for the deeper option. PB09 at 120mm and PB05 at 140mm are the roomiest.
For A4, remember a sheet is 297 x 210mm. PB03 (343 x 220) and PB09 (340 x 250) both take it upright with room to spare. PB01 and PB02 do not.
What paper are the bags made from?
157gsm art paper is the standard, laminated on the printed side in gloss or matt. Lamination is what stops the ink scuffing when bags rub together in a stack, and it adds enough water resistance to survive a walk to the car park in the rain.
Gloss lifts colour and suits food, retail and anything photographic. Matt looks more restrained and is the usual choice for professional services, jewellery and premium gifting. They cost the same, so choose on looks rather than budget. Kraft and other stocks are available and quoted on request.
Is spot UV worth adding to a paper bag?
Spot UV is mostly a setup cost, so it is poor value on a small run and much better value on a large one. On a 100-bag order it adds close to half again; on 5,000 bags it adds roughly a quarter.
Spot UV is a raised gloss varnish applied to part of the design, so a logo or pattern catches the light against the matt background. Because most of the cost is setup, it is poor value at 100 bags (a 47 percent uplift) and much better value at 1,000 (37 percent) or 5,000 (23 percent). If spot UV matters to your brand, it is an argument for ordering more bags rather than fewer.
Are the bags printed on both sides?
The standard price is 4C + 0C, meaning full colour on one side and nothing on the reverse. Most retail bags only need one side because that is the face people see.
Printing both sides is available and quoted on your artwork. Before paying for it, consider that a bag is usually carried with one side against the leg, so a second print often earns less attention than a bigger logo on the first.
How do I send artwork for paper bag printing?
Send a print-ready PDF in CMYK at 300dpi, laid out flat to the dieline for your chosen size, with 3mm bleed on every edge.
Ask us for the dieline template before you start designing. A paper bag is not a rectangle: the artwork wraps around the front, both side gussets and the back, and there is a glue flap and a fold at the base. Artwork designed as a plain rectangle almost always has to be redrawn, which costs you a day. Keep logos and text clear of the fold lines and the top hem where the handle punches through.
How long does paper bag printing take?
Standard lead time is 7 to 12 working days from artwork approval. Paper bags take longer than flat printing because the sheets are printed, laminated, die cut, folded, glued and then have handles fitted.
Seven to twelve working days is roughly two to three calendar weeks once weekends are counted, so work backwards from your event date and allow time for a proof on top. If your date is tighter than that, tell us when you enquire and we will check with production whether the job can be expedited.
