What is the standard name card size in Singapore?

90 x 54 mm, which is 3.54 x 2.13 inches. It is the size most Singapore businesses order, the size that fits card holders, wallets and the card slot in a phone case, and the size our pricing is quoted on: SGD 30 for a box of 100 and SGD 90 for ten boxes on 260gsm art card with matt lamination. Current rates are on the name card printing page.

Size Millimetres Inches Pixels at 300 dpi (trim) Notes
Standard Singapore 90 x 54 mm 3.54 x 2.13 in 1063 x 638 px Default; fits all holders; box prices based on this size
Compact 85 x 50 mm 3.35 x 1.97 in 1004 x 591 px Slightly smaller, sits loosely in a standard holder
Compact tall 85 x 54 mm 3.35 x 2.13 in 1004 x 638 px Standard height, shorter width
Near US 88 x 50 mm 3.46 x 1.97 in 1039 x 591 px Close to the US 3.5 x 2 in card
Wide standard 88 x 54 mm 3.46 x 2.13 in 1039 x 638 px Standard height, 2 mm narrower
Square 54 x 54 mm 2.13 x 2.13 in 638 x 638 px Distinctive; does not fit most holders
Rounded corner 85.5 x 54 mm 3.37 x 2.13 in 1010 x 638 px Credit card footprint with rounded corners

All seven are sizes we print. A square or rounded card gets noticed, but check it fits a standard holder before committing to ten boxes of it.

How does the Singapore size compare with other countries?

Singapore, China and Hong Kong use 90 x 54 mm. The United States and Canada use 3.5 x 2 inches, which is 88.9 x 50.8 mm. The United Kingdom and most of Europe use 85 x 55 mm, the same footprint as a credit card. Japan uses 91 x 55 mm, Australia 90 x 55 mm. The differences are a few millimetres, so a card from any of these standards fits a Singapore card holder; what does not transfer is the artwork, which must be rebuilt at the new trim size rather than scaled, or the bleed and safe zone shift.

Region Standard size Difference from Singapore
Singapore, China, Hong Kong 90 x 54 mm None
United States, Canada 88.9 x 50.8 mm (3.5 x 2 in) 1.1 mm narrower, 3.2 mm shorter
United Kingdom, Europe 85 x 55 mm 5 mm narrower, 1 mm taller
Japan 91 x 55 mm 1 mm wider, 1 mm taller
Australia, New Zealand 90 x 55 mm 1 mm taller

What bleed and safe zone should a name card have?

3 mm bleed on every edge and a 4 mm safe zone inside the trim. Bleed is background colour or image that runs past the cut line so that a cut a fraction off still leaves no white sliver; the file is therefore 96 x 60 mm for a 90 x 54 mm card. The safe zone is the margin inside the trim where nothing important sits, so that the same small cutting variance never clips a phone number or a logo edge. Keep text, logos and QR codes at least 4 mm from the trim; borders and thin frames right at the edge are the most common cause of a card that looks uneven, because any variance shows as one side thicker than the other.

Zone Dimensions for a 90 x 54 mm card What goes there
Bleed (file size) 96 x 60 mm, 1134 x 709 px at 300 dpi Background colour or image only, extended past the trim
Trim (finished card) 90 x 54 mm, 1063 x 638 px at 300 dpi The cut line
Safe zone 82 x 46 mm, 4 mm inside the trim All text, logos, QR codes, contact details

What file format and resolution does a name card need?

A print-ready PDF in CMYK at 300 dpi, 96 x 60 mm including bleed, with fonts embedded or converted to outlines. RGB files are converted to CMYK on press and bright blues, oranges and greens shift when that happens, so convert in the design software first and check the result. Images placed in the file need to be 300 dpi at their final size; a logo lifted from a website at 72 dpi prints soft. For double-sided cards supply both sides in one PDF, page one front, page two back, both with bleed. Two things cause most reprints: artwork built at 90 x 54 mm with no bleed, which forces either a white edge or a scale-up that pushes text into the cut, and text too close to the edge.

What paper weight is a standard name card?

260gsm art card with matt lamination on both sides. It is heavy enough not to bend in a wallet and the lamination keeps fingerprints off and protects the print. Gloss lamination is available at the same price for cards built around a photograph or a bright brand colour. Spot UV, embossing, gold and silver foil, and kraft and eco stocks are available on top, each quoted on the artwork. The finish decision is covered in matt vs gloss lamination.

Which size should you choose?

90 x 54 mm unless there is a reason not to. It is what every holder, wallet and card scanner in Singapore expects, and it is the size the box pricing is based on. Choose the rounded-corner 85.5 x 54 mm card when the brand wants a credit card feel, the square 54 x 54 mm card when standing out matters more than fitting a holder, and 88 x 50 mm when the card has to match a US design or template already in use. If the company has staff who exchange cards overseas, 90 x 54 mm still fits every regional holder listed above. The same 90 x 54 mm footprint is also our standard sticker size.
